Russell, thank you for the feedback. I know Charlene Li’s “Participation Ladder” and have talked with her about it, as I have something quite similar and created it about the same time. I have mine paired in another set of variables in a matrix that really brings clarity to see gaps and address them. When looking at participants in a service nearly every participant becomes a contributor in the service or community in some manner over time. Where there are many smaller groupings around subjects or practices the participation increases quite a bit. Where people have the ability to share and interact with a select group of people they already have social comfort with the percentage of people participating skyrockets. How the information that is shared in the smaller comfortable groups is honed and surfaced more broadly and even out the whole of those who need is one of the challenges that needs addressing, but few even have considered it. This is something I have been doing with vendors and their customers to close that gap.
